If I had super powers it would be the power to talk Māori.

Sensitive, authentic and cheeky, Hīkoi is the world premiere of the debut, award-winning play by Nancy Brunning, star of White LiesWhat Becomes of the Broken HeartedWaiora and Shortland Street.

It's the 1970s and 80s in New Zealand and two generations of the Miller whānau, swept up in irreversible change, are trying to give voice to what's going on in their lives.

Husband and wife Nellie and Charlie are at odds with each other.  With their family's future at stake they can't agree about whether to fight the powers that be or stand back and accept their lot.  Meanwhile, their five hard-case teens, fed up with their parent's silences, secrets and quarrels pack their kete and take off in search of answers.

Hīkoi is an emotional road trip deep into the history of Aotearoa and even deeper into the heart of the Miller whānau full of heart, humour and a healthy dose of whānau and societal politics.  Join the family on their journey towards love, forgiveness and the discovery of who they really are.
