TAFELMUSIK:HOUSE OF DREAMS
TAFELMUSIK
(CANADA)
Friday 6 March 2015
Great Hall, Auckland Town Hall
Music Director Jeanne Lamon
For lovers of art, architecture and the beauty of baroque, Tafelmusik brings House of Dreams to Auckland Arts Festival 2015, on 6 March at the Auckland Town Hall.
In a journey where baroque art and music meet, House of Dreams features 17 musicians, all virtuosi on their period instruments, recreating the atmosphere of an 18th-century salon.
As they play the whimsical and beautiful programme of Bach, Handel and Vivaldi, Tafelmusik takes the audience on a tour of Handel House in London and historic buildings, mansions and cafes in Venice, Paris, Delft and Leipzig. While listening, on view are the grand baroque paintings that once decorated the walls of these impressive European locations behind the orchestra.
Tafelmusik was founded in 1979, and is based in the historic Trinity-St Pauls United Church in Toronto.
The orchestra regularly tours and performs sell-out concerts across Canada, the United States and Europe. It has also toured in the People's Republic of China, Hong Kong and Japan, as well as Australia, Israel and Greece.
Winner of nine JUNO Awards and a German Echo Klassik Award, Tafelmusik is the University of Torontos Baroque Orchestra in Residence.
"Tafelmusik ranks among the worlds top period ensembles, and its individual members are often the best youll hear anywhere" - Toronto Star
"One of the worlds top baroque orchestras" - Gramophone
